Fire Marshal’s Office Overview

We are committed to providing Clayton County with a professional fire and life safety program through comprehensive fire protection plan reviews, informative occupancy inspections, thorough code enforcement, and definitive fire origin and cause investigations in order to reduce the loss of life and property. We will strive to maintain an unmatched level of professionalism, excellence and support to our community.

EXISTING BUILDING INSPECTIONS

Fire Inspectors conduct over 3,500 annual fire inspections a year to ensure fire compliance.  Inspectors reference the Life Safety Code and the International Fire Code, and County ordinance.  Inspectors have the power to issue citations for those business and occupants that violate fire code.

PLAN REVIEW/NEW CONSTRUCTION/BUSINESS LICENSE

This division reviews construction plans submitted by developers and contractors. Reviews are performed to ensure that structures are built to meet or exceed the state minimum fire safety standards and county codes.  New construction and business license inspections are completed to ensure all fire and life safety requirements are met prior to occupancy.

FIRE INVESTIGATIONS

The Fire Marshal’s Office takes an aggressive approach in the investigation and apprehension of arson suspects.  Utilizing innovative techniques, our investigators can pinpoint a fire’s area of origin and the method used to ignite that fire.  Fire investigators work in conjunction with CCPD Criminal Investigations Division, CCSO Fugitive Unit, and private and state laboratories.
